Team India’s journey in T20 World Cup 2014 has a special similarity with the World Cup 2023, you will also be shocked!

New Delhi. The countdown for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has started. After the final of IPL 2024 to be held on May 26, another big T20 tournament is ready to provide ‘full entertainment’ to the cricket fans. The 9th edition of the T20 World Cup will begin with the match between America and Canada. Team India will play its opening match against Ireland on June 5 but the excitement will reach its peak with the ‘high voltage’ match between arch rivals India and Pakistan on June 9.

In the eight T20 World Cups held so far, West Indies and England have won the trophy twice each, while India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia have achieved the credit of becoming champions once each. Talking about Team India, Rohit Sharma Brigade has a golden opportunity to bring smile on the faces of Indian fans who were saddened by the defeat of World Cup (ODI) 2023 by becoming T20 World Cup champion. Team India is also being counted among the strong contenders for the title.

Let us tell you, when the Indian team won the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2007, Rohit was involved as a player in it. ‘Hitman’ now has a chance to win the T20 World Cup as captain. Apart from becoming the champion in the year 2007, the Indian team had reached the final in the 2014 T20 World Cup but the team had to face defeat from Sri Lanka in the title match. India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2014 has striking similarities with last year’s ODI World Cup (World Cup 2023). Like the ODI World Cup 2023, in the 2014 T20 World Cup too, the Indian team had made it to the finals by crushing all the rival teams in a one-sided fashion, but one day’s poor performance had become the reason for them losing the title.

All the matches before the final were won easily

In T20 World Cup 2014 and ODI World Cup 2023, the Indian team had won all its matches in a one-sided manner before the final. In both the tournaments, the Indian team had not lost any match before the finals but the hearts of the fans were broken in the finals. A ‘bad day’ cost the team dearly and it was deprived of the title due to only one defeat in the entire tournament.

Margin of India’s victory over Pakistan and defeat in the final is same
In both the tournaments, the Indian team’s victory over Pakistan as well as its defeat in the finals were the same. In the T20 World Cup 2014, India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets and in the 2023 World Cup also, Team India defeated the ‘neighboring country’ by the same margin. Similarly, in the final of T20 World Cup 2014, India was defeated by Sri Lanka by 6 wickets. In the final of World Cup 2023 also, the Indian team had lost to Australia by the same margin. Virat had scored the most runs in both the tournaments.
India’s Virat Kohli became the batsman who scored the most runs in both these tournaments. Remaining unbeaten thrice in 6 matches of the T20 World Cup 2014, ‘King Kohli’ scored the highest 319 runs at an average of 106.33 and strike rate of 129.14. Rohit Sharma was among the top 5 batsmen in both the tournaments. Rohit had scored 200 runs while remaining unbeaten once in six matches of T20 World Cup 2014 and was fourth in terms of runs, while in World Cup 2023, he was the second batsman after scoring 597 runs in 11 matches after Virat.
