Pakistan team guilty of match fixing, difficulty in visa due to going to jail

Lahore. There is a constant discussion about Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Aamir, who returned from retirement before the ICC T20 World Cup. After facing a ban and being left out of the team after being found guilty of spot-fixing against England, now his dream of playing the World Cup is about to be fulfilled. Aamir has been included in the T20 team against Ireland but he may not be able to leave for Ireland for the three-match T20 series on Tuesday due to visa issues with the team.

A reliable source of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that the remaining members of the team have got visas for Ireland. Aamir’s visa is being delayed due to him serving a jail sentence in the 2010 spot-fixing case. “The process of issuing him a visa is still underway due to the 2010 spot-fixing scandal and the subsequent jail sentence and ban,” the source said.

The source said that the PCB had faced a similar situation in 2018 when Pakistan toured Ireland and England. Aamir was then issued a visa later. He said, “We hope that he will get the visa in a day or two and he can join the team later.”

Pakistan has to play the first T20 International against Ireland on May 10.
