IPL Playoffs: Equation of IPL playoffs, fight among 5 teams for 2nd place, know whose path is easier

New Delhi: Almost 90 percent of the matches have been played in IPL and the picture of playoffs has also become clear. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have made it to the playoffs. If Sunrisers Hyderabad wins Thursday’s match, it will also cement its place in the top-4. After this, there will be one place left in the top-4, for which at least 4 teams are in the race. These four teams include Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Supergiants.

In IPL 2024, there is a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans on Thursday. Hyderabad team is at fourth position in the points table with 14 points in 12 matches. A win will cement its place in the playoffs. If SRH loses to Gujarat then it will have to wait for its last match to make it to the playoffs. His 14th match is with Punjab Kings. Overall, one thing is clear that the fate of SRH is in its own hands. Victory will take him to the top-4. Yes, if it loses then it will definitely get entangled in Neternrate’s equation.

Chennai Super Kings’ claim strong
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)’s claim to go to the playoffs is also strong. He currently has 14 points from 13 matches. Chennai’s run rate is 0.528, which would be considered very good. CSK has to play Royal Challengers Bangalore in the league stage. If it wins, it will easily reach the playoffs with 16 points. If CSK loses then its fate will also be entangled in ifs and buts. That means, then the fourth team of the playoff will be decided by the run rate only.

RCB needs victory at any cost
If Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wants to make it to the playoffs, they will have to defeat Chennai Super Kings at any cost. RCB’s victory margin should also be at least 18 runs (if the team score is 200 runs). If Bengaluru team bats later then it will have to win in 18.1 overs. By the time RCB and CSK compete, Lucknow Supergiants would have played both their matches. This will make it clear to RCB how much hope they have of going to the playoffs.

The impossible route of Delhi-Lucknow
Delhi Capitals have 14 points (-0.377 netrunrate) in 14 matches. Lucknow Supergiants have 12 points (-0.787 netrunrate) after 13 matches. In the points table, Delhi is at fifth and Lucknow at seventh. It seems very difficult for both of them to reach fourth place. However, it cannot be called impossible.

Delhi Capitals will reach the playoffs only if Sunrisers Hyderabad loses both its matches and the margin of defeat (both matches) is at least 194 runs. Apart from this, he will have to hope that the Chennai team defeats Bengaluru. The path to playoff for Lucknow is more difficult than Delhi. For this, he will have to defeat Mumbai Indians by at least 200 runs and hope that the results of Hyderabad and Chennai are as per his equation.
