Indian students are learning farming abroad by paying lakhs of rupees as fees! Know what is the main reason for this

Agriculture Syllabus for Indian Students: Indian students generally study such subjects abroad which are in demand all over the world. Like computer science, engineering, management courses. The fees of these courses also run into lakhs of rupees. Indian students spend so much money studying these courses because they know that these courses will help them get jobs easily. However, these days students are also studying such subjects, which seems quite surprising.
Actually, Indian students are going abroad to study about agriculture and its related fields. The main reason for this is that now things like computer sensors and drones are being used in farming also. Research in agricultural fields has also increased in foreign countries. The interest of students in courses ranging from Agricultural Science to Food Sciences has increased significantly. The European Union’s ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy and Canada’s ‘Agri-Food Pilot’ schemes also have a big role behind this.

What were the reasons for increased interest in agricultural studies?

Nikhil Jain, co-founder of ‘ForeignAdmits’, a company that helps in admission abroad, said, “Our data shows that since 2020, inquiries for admission in agriculture and related fields are increasing by 30 percent every year. This figure will reach 75 percent in 2023.” he/she said that the youth see farming as a field where technology, sustainable development and global food security are merging.

Nikhil says that initiatives like EU’s ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy have increased the demand for agricultural experts. Not only this, but countries like Canada and Germany are also increasingly providing Permanent Residency (PR) to experts in the field of agriculture. Getting PR of a good country has always been a priority for Indian students. One reason to read about farming is the weakness of the food supply chain during Covid.

Where are Indian students going to study?

Countries like Canada, New Zealand and Australia are becoming more popular for studies related to the field of agriculture. Apart from this, Indians are also coming to Netherlands for studies. Here students get the option to study special courses like Agribusiness, Food Security and Environmental Sustainability. In the courses taught in Canada, students are being taught things like farm management, food processing and environment conservation.

Even in America, students are getting the opportunity to study fields related to agriculture. Here big food companies also give money for research. Because of this, students are working in research positions in biotechnology and food production. Skilled workers are in high demand in the agriculture and agri-food industries in Canada. Because of this there are very good job opportunities here. Most students studying agriculture want to earn a master’s degree.

Wageningen University in the Netherlands, University of Queensland in Australia and the University of Guelph in Canada are among the top choices for Indian students looking to pursue these cutting-edge programs. The fees for agriculture related courses at Wageningen University starts from Rs 19 lakh. Similarly, the fees of Queensland University is Rs 26 lakh per year. In this way, now Indian students are spending lakhs of rupees abroad to learn farming.
