New Delhi. Sri Lankan fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana has called Mahendra Singh Dhoni like a father and urged him to play one more season. Pathirana and Dhoni are playing in IPL for Chennai Super Kings. This young fast bowler is getting to learn a lot from Dhoni due to which Pathirana is very happy. Pathirana, popularly known as Baby Malinga, says that small advice from Mahi Bhai boosts his confidence. The 21-year-old bowler made his IPL debut in 2022 and since then he has been the main pillar of CSK’s fast bowling unit. His brilliant performance played an important role in making CSK the champion in the last season.

On the guidance he received from MS Dhoni, Mathisha Pathirana said, ‘After my father, mostly he (MSD) plays a fatherly role in my cricket life. He always takes care of me and keeps giving me some guidance. It’s like what my father does at home.’ He said in ‘Lions Up Close’ program on CSK’s YouTube channel, ‘I think the amount of things he shares with me is enough. He doesn’t talk much inside or outside the field but keeps telling me small things. It makes a lot of difference and boosts my confidence a lot.

Pathirana has taken 13 wickets
The current season of IPL has been good so far for this Sri Lankan bowler. He is the second successful bowler of the team after Mustafizur Rahman (14) with 13 wickets. During this period, he has spent runs at an average of 7.68. Pathirana said, ‘He (Dhoni) knows how to maintain the morale of the players. We don’t talk much outside the field. If I have to ask him anything, I will definitely go to him and ask him. It is believed that this will be the last season of IPL for Dhoni but Pathirana has emotionally requested Dhoni to continue playing for at least one more season.

‘Mahi bhai please play one more season with me’
According to Mathisa Pathirana, ‘Mahi Bhai, if you can play one more session, please play with us in my presence (laughs).’ Chennai Super Kings is at fifth position in the IPL table this season with 10 points from five wins in 10 matches.
