‘Zero Terror Plan’ will be implemented in Jammu to curb terrorism, Amit Shah gave special instructions to security agencies


New Delhi : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday directed security agencies to implement area domination and zero terror plan in Jammu division on the lines of Kashmir to achieve success. Shah said the Narendra Modi-led government is committed to cracking down on terrorists using new methods. Sources said the home minister was addressing officials at a high-level meeting convened to review the security situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of recent terror attacks.

Review meeting on Amarnath Yatra preparations

Shah also reviewed the preparations for the annual Amarnath Yatra which is going to start from June 29. Sources said that the Home Minister was briefed in detail about the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and in the coming days, security forces may intensify anti-terrorism operations there. he/she said that the operation against terrorists will be carried out as per the instructions of the Prime Minister. Shah chaired a high-level meeting in North Block here. Three days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a meeting on the same issue, in which he/she instructed the officials regarding security arrangements. The meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi nominated as the next Army Chief, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Aneesh Dayal Singh, BSF Director General Nitin Agarwal, Jammu and Kashmir Police Director General RR Swain and other top security officials.

Four terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir

Sources said that in a meeting held last Friday, Shah was briefed on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, deployment of security forces along the International Border and the Line of Control, infiltration attempts, status of counter-terrorism operations and terrorists active in the Union Territory. Militants carried out attacks at four places in Reasi, Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir in the last four days, killing nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan and injuring seven security personnel and several others. Two suspected Pakistani terrorists were also killed in an encounter with security forces in Kathua district and a huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them.

Firing on a bus carrying pilgrims on 9 June

On June 9, terrorists opened fire on a bus of pilgrims when it was going from Shivkhodi temple to Katra. The bus was carrying devotees from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. After the firing, the bus fell into a deep gorge, killing nine people and injuring 41 others. On June 11, terrorists opened fire on a joint post of Rashtriya Rifles and police in Bhaderwah. On June 12, terrorists attacked a search party in Gandoh area of ​​Doda district, injuring seven security personnel, including a policeman.

In the wake of these attacks, Prime Minister Modi on June 13 discussed the deployment of security forces and counter-terrorism operations with the Home Minister. The Prime Minister also spoke to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and took stock of the situation in the Union Territory. These incidents have taken place ahead of the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave temple in the South Kashmir Himalayas. The yatra is scheduled to begin on June 29 and will continue till August 19. Pilgrims to Amarnath travel through two routes in Jammu and Kashmir – Baltal and Pahalgam.
