Who will be the coach of Team India after Dravid? 2 Indian and 1 foreign veteran in the race

New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India, on Monday, May 13, invited applications for the new coach of Team India and decided that change is possible after the T20 World Cup. If Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid does not reapply for the post, then National Cricket Academy head and former great Indian batsman VVS Laxman can be the best option to replace him on this post.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has ruled out the possibility of having separate coaches for Test and limited overs cricket, hence the search will be for a single coach. Dravid’s contract will end after the T20 World Cup but he will have the right to reapply. BCCI has invited applications till 27th May while the IPL final is on 26th May. It seems that the board is looking for a new coach. Some options for the new coach may be as follows.

VVS Laxman:

If he applies he will be the best option. Laxman, 49, has been the NCA chief for three years and knows the next breed of Indian cricketers very well. When Dravid was on leave, he also coached the senior team. Under his coach, India has played Asian Games, bilateral T20 series against Australia and series in England, New Zealand and Ireland.

Gautam Gambhir:

Gambhir, who has played cricket at the top level in the last ten years, understands every format. His technical skills cannot be denied. Apart from winning two IPL titles as the captain of KKR, he has the credit of taking Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs in the first two years.

Under his coach, KKR has made a great comeback in this season of IPL and is at the top of the table. Now it remains to be seen whether a self-respecting person like him applies for this post or not. However, his emotional attachment to KKR and its owner Shahrukh Khan may stop him from doing so. Apart from this, it seems certain that Virat Kohli will play for the next three years and in such a situation, their mutual relationship is well known, so it can be a difficult journey. By the way, Gambhir and current captain Rohit Sharma get along well.

Justin Langer:

Ashes and T20 World Cup winning Australian coach Langer is a good strategist and strict in terms of discipline. He recently said that he may consider the possibility of becoming India’s coach but it is a very demanding job both mentally and physically.
