What is the meaning of Global South, why do they have expectations and trust from India, what Jaishankar explained very well

New Delhi : Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said during an event in Pune on Saturday that the Global South has great expectations from India. he/she has great faith in India. In the program of Flame University, the Foreign Minister explained why the Global South has trust and expectations from India. he/she gave three examples for this, in which he/she mentioned the help given by India to the countries of the Global South during the Corona epidemic, the Russia-Ukraine war and the membership of the African Union during the New Delhi G-20 Summit. Jaishankar also explained the meaning of Global South and how the countries of the Global South have a lot of similarity. he/she asked, ‘What do we mean by Global South? We mean primarily countries that were colonies, that got their independence or that are still developing, which would be largely low-income countries….’

The Foreign Minister said that the countries of the Global South trust India a lot. Have hope. he/she said, ‘They (countries of the Global South) have a lot of trust in India. They have hope from India and there is a reason behind it. I can give you three examples.

Jaishankar further said, ‘Most people in the Global South remember that during Covid, when the developed world was actually hoarding vaccines, many of them got their first vaccines from India. That too when India was still vaccinating its people. I cannot overstate the emotional impact it has had on the world.

The External Affairs Minister said, ‘The second example was Ukraine…the third example was seen during our G20. For many years, the African Union wanted a seat in the G20. Every G20 started like this. On the first day of the G20, everyone used to tell the African Union not to worry, we will take care of you during this meeting but at the end of the meeting when nothing happened, they used to say, sorry, we will not do this this time. Maybe, but next time we will definitely consider it… African countries feel that India has a conscience. India has a reputation, it has a stance, India has confidence today…’

In the university program, Jaishankar reminded of the terrible period of the Corona period when poor countries were yearning for the vaccine. Only a few selected countries were working on making vaccines, India was also among them. At that time, rich countries like America had hoarded the vaccine. On one hand, poor countries were yearning for even the first dose of the vaccine, on the other hand, these countries were hoarding the vaccine for the second dose or booster dose of their citizens. At that time India helped poor countries. It sent vaccine supplies to many countries even before starting widespread vaccination for its citizens. Currently in India, only Corona warriors and elderly or patients with co-morbidity were getting the vaccine, then New Delhi had supplied the vaccine to all the countries for free.
