You have to do some shopping on Diwali, but don’t get trapped in cyber scams! Government issued this advisory

New Delhi: This time Diwali will be celebrated in India on 31st October. Even before Diwali, many people have started online shopping for their friends and relatives. Along with this, scammers have also become active for online fraud. An advisory has been issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) for citizens to stay safe from such scams.

The government gave these tips to the people

The government has also shared some tips to avoid online shopping scams. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team has said that to avoid such scams, it is necessary to check the identity of the caller before picking up the call. Avoid picking up video calls from any unknown person and avoid transferring money just on the request of someone on the call. Keep in mind, government agencies never use platforms like WhatsApp and Skype for any official work.

Do not give your details to strangers even by mistake

According to the advisory issued by CERT-In, scammers try to scare the victim through social engineering. In such a situation, avoid taking any hasty decision due to fear. Also, avoid sharing your personal and financial details with any unknown caller. Avoid giving information about the OTP received on the phone to the caller. Instead of ignoring any suspicious activity, report it. If you become a victim of a scam, immediately inform the bank and cyber crime department.

Do not click on unknown links

Avoid clicking and downloading attachments and files on mail that come from any unknown email address. Apart from this, do not download any kind of app in the phone on the advice of anyone. If you are downloading any app on the phone, then use only the official platform like Play Store.
