We do not want to pursue this matter further but… what did the Supreme Court say to Telangana CM and let him/her go

New Delhi: All three organs of governance – the executive, the legislature and the judiciary – should respect each other and not overstep their boundaries while criticising. Emphasising this, the Supreme Court on Friday quashed proceedings against Telangana CM Revanth Reddy. Revanth Reddy had made the comment after the Supreme Court granted bail to K Kavitha of BRS in the Delhi Excise Scam case. A bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan asked all constitutional functionaries to be cautious and responsible while commenting on court proceedings, and made it clear that any fair criticism is welcome. The Supreme Court took strong objection to Reddy’s statement that there is a talk that Kavitha got bail due to a deal between BRS and the BJP.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the CM, told the bench that Reddy has apologised twice and the proceedings should be closed. The Supreme Court said that keeping in mind the apology, we close the case and do not want to proceed further. The Supreme Court also said that all constitutional functionaries should perform their constitutional duties within their respective wings.

The Supreme Court said that such inappropriate comments unnecessarily create confrontation. The Supreme Court was hearing Reddy’s petition seeking transfer of the trial of the 2015 cash for vote case from Telangana to Bhopal. Reddy is one of the accused in this case. The court on Friday refused to transfer the case from Telangana to Bhopal and directed Reddy not to interfere in any way with the functioning of the prosecution in the proceedings of the case.
