US News: Discussion on H-1B visa started as soon as Trump won the elections, will the new government change the rules?

H-1B Visa for Indians: The results of the presidential elections held in America have come. Republican Party candidate Donald Trump has won a landslide victory. he/she has defeated Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris. The eyes of the whole world including India were fixed on this election. After Trump’s victory, discussion has started regarding a special visa, through which most Indians reach America. This is H-1B visa, in obtaining which Indians are at the forefront compared to other countries.
The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to hire foreign workers to work in fields such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics and IT. Only 85,000 H-1B visas are issued every year, out of which 20,000 visas are reserved for students studying in America. H-1B visa is given through a lottery system, due to which many times even eligible candidates miss out on getting it.

What is Donald Trump’s opinion on H-1B visa?

America’s new President Donald Trump has described H-1B visa as ‘very bad’ and ‘unfair’ for American workers. During Donald Trump’s first term, an attempt was made to tighten the H-1B visa program. There is every possibility that major changes may be seen regarding visas in Donald Trump’s government. In its last term, Donald Trump’s government worked to increase the minimum wage standard required to obtain an H-1B visa to that of an American employee. But this proposal of the government was later stopped.

A report in the Wall Street Journal also revealed plans to sign an order by the Homeland Security Secretary (US Home Secretary) in Trump’s new government. Through this plan, the way to enter America legally is to be restricted. This report was based on interviews given by former Trump officials and his/her election campaign. According to the report, consultants including Stephen Miller and America First Policy Institute are also reportedly preparing executive orders, rules and memos for this.

What changes can be seen regarding H-1B visa?

The eligibility criteria for H-1B visa may be increased under Donald Trump’s government. An increase in the mandatory salary limit may also be seen. Apart from this, the limit of visa given to each country can also be reduced. For example, India is given 7 percent of the total H-1B visas every year. It is believed that a reduction plan can be made in this. There is every possibility that the number of H-1B visas is not going to increase in the new government of Donald Trump. Because of all these things it will be difficult to go to America.
