Trouble with BCCI is costly, ICC may exclude Pakistan from Champions Trophy

New Delhi. The stubbornness of Pakistan Cricket Board is going to weigh heavily on all Pakistani cricket fans. On Friday 29 November, the International Cricket Council held a meeting to organize the Champions Trophy, which remained inconclusive. ICC had proposed to PCB to conduct the tournament in hybrid model, which it rejected. Now ICC will take the final decision regarding Champions Trophy today on 30th November. PCB will be given a last chance, if it does not agree then the tournament will be held outside Pakistan and it can also be thrown out.

Everyone was waiting for the ICC meeting on Friday. Everyone wanted to know whether the false stubbornness of the Pakistan Cricket Board would end or would continue. Regarding the Champions Trophy to be held in February-March next year, BCCI has made it clear that due to security reasons, the Indian team will not play in Pakistan. ICC had proposed a hybrid model to hold its matches outside Pakistan but PCB is clearly refusing to accept it.

An ICC board source said, “The company that broadcasts the Champions Trophy matches will not pay money for any ICC tournament in which the Indian team is not playing. Pakistan Cricket Board also knows this very well. The ICC meeting will be held on Saturday only after Pakistan refuses to accept the hybrid model. If Pakistan does not accept the hybrid model, then the Champions Trophy can be organized in another country and the Pakistan team will not be included in it.

Before this, the meeting of the Executive Board was brief. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made it clear that despite the Indian team not getting approval from its government to tour Pakistan, he/she does not accept the ‘hybrid model’. “A brief meeting of the Executive Board was held today,” an official and board member from a full-time ICC member country told PTI. All parties are working towards a positive solution for the Champions Trophy to be held in 2025. It is expected that the board will meet again on Saturday and continue this until a solution is found.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi reiterated the stand of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the Indian team cannot travel to Pakistan due to security reasons. When the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson was asked in a regular press conference about the possibility of the Indian team participating in the Champions Trophy, he/she said, “BCCI has issued a statement. he/she has said that there are security concerns there and hence it is not likely that the team will go there.
