There will be clear and direct talks on the China-Pakistan issue! NSA Ajit Doval will visit Russia next week

New Delhi: NSA Ajit Doval is going to Russia next week. There he/she will participate in the BRICS NSA meeting. This meeting is taking place before the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan in October. During this time Doval can also meet his/her Chinese counterpart. This BRICS NSA meeting will focus on combating terrorism and finalizing the agenda of the summit. This meeting will be the first BRICS NSA meeting after five new members Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia joined the group last year.

Doval may meet Chinese NSA

During this period, Doval can also meet his/her Russian counterparts and counterparts of other BRICS member countries. The meeting with the Russian side can discuss the situation after the annual summit held in Moscow in July. At the 13th BRICS NSA meeting held in Johannesburg in 2023, Doval had said, “Terrorism is one of the biggest threats to national peace and security.” he/she had emphasized that terrorist organizations are still operating fearlessly in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region.

What did Doval say in the BRICS meeting?

Doval had suggested that listing terrorists and their enablers under the UN counter-terrorism sanctions regime is one area where BRICS can work together. Doval had called it important that the decision-making of the UN Security Council sanctions committee be free from politicisation and double standards.

met the Chinese Foreign Minister

In Johannesburg, Doval met Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and then Director of the Foreign Affairs Commission (now Foreign Minister) on the sidelines of the BRICS NSA meeting. During that meeting, Doval said that the situation on the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border since 2020 has eroded the public and political basis of strategic trust and relations.

At the WMCC meeting in Beijing last month, India and China decided to maintain peace and tranquility on the ground in the border areas in accordance with the relevant bilateral agreements, protocols and understandings reached between the two governments, which appears to be a way to address the remaining irritants on the LAC.
