The biggest miracle of IPL 2025! Dhoni’s annual salary and Rishabh Pant’s 2 match earnings are equal…

New Delhi. IPL Auction 2025 has made many players millionaires. Some cricketers have become millionaires from lakhpatis while the worth of some has reduced from crores to lakhs. Take IPL’s biggest star MS Dhoni. Dhoni, who got the most money in the first season of IPL, is no longer even in the top-50 players of the league. Dhoni has slipped to ninth place in his/her own team in terms of contract fees. When Dhoni is compared with the most expensive player of IPL 2025, Rishabh Pant, surprising results emerge.

Before comparing MS Dhoni’s IPL earnings with other wicketkeepers, let us take a look at IPL retention and auction. Rishabh Pant was the player with the highest bid in the auction. Lucknow Super Giants bid Rs 27 crore for Pant, which is the highest in IPL history. Talking about IPL retention, Heinrich Klaasen was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 23 crore. This was the most expensive retention for IPL 2025. Klaasen is at fourth place in the list of most expensive players of IPL 2025. Apart from Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer are also going to earn more than Klaasen in the upcoming season.

CSK retained him/her for the least amount
MS Dhoni has been retained by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 4 crore. CSK retained 5 players for IPL, out of which Dhoni got the least amount. This also happened because of Dhoni being retained as an uncapped player. Before IPL 2025, some rules regarding uncapped players were changed, in which it was agreed to consider cricketers who had retired 5 years ago as uncapped. For this reason, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Mathisha Pathirana and Shivam Dubey were retained by paying more than Dhoni. Even in the auction, bids for Noor Ahmed, Ravichandran Ashwin, Devon Conway and Khalil Ahmed were more than the amount Dhoni got. A bid of Rs 4 crore was made on Rachin Ravindra.

Pant gets Rs 1.80 crore per match, Dhoni gets Rs 23.52 lakh
Now let us see what will be the difference in the earnings of the most expensive players Rishabh Pant and MS Dhoni in IPL 2025. If Rishabh Pant’s team plays the final, it will play 16 or 17 matches in the entire season. If we consider it as 17 matches, Pant will get an average of Rs 1.80 crore per match. Similarly, if Chennai Super Kings reaches the final and Dhoni appears in 17 matches, then his/her per match earning will be Rs 23.52 lakh. Match fees are not included in this earning of Dhoni and Pant. Earlier match fees were not available in IPL. Now players will also get match fees from the year 2025. Similarly, if CSK fails to reach the knockout round and Dhoni plays all the group stage matches, then his/her per match fee will be Rs 28.57 lakh. If Lucknow gets out of the knockout round and Pant plays all the group matches, his/her per match fee will be Rs 1.92 crore.

Pant’s fee for 2 matches is equal to Dhoni’s entire year’s salary…
If Lucknow Super Giants gets eliminated before the knockout round, then Rishabh Pant will get an average of Rs 3.84 crore in two matches. This will be slightly less than Dhoni’s entire year’s salary. Dhoni’s salary for one season is Rs 4 crore. If we compare the annual salary of both the players, then Pant will get almost seven times more money than Dhoni.
