There was a time when Raj Kapoor’s Holi, which was celebrated in RK Studio, used to unite and create the entire film industry. RK’s Holi tradition was watered by Amitabh Bachchan and well-known filmmaker Subhash Ghai for years with his/her hospitality. The entire industry was eagerly awaited by Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow Jalsa and Holi to be celebrated in the Mud Island bungalow of Subhash Ghai. Shatrughan Sinha was working in my film Kalicharan. So that year I went to Raj Saheb’s Holi party for the first time with Shatrughan Sinha and Jitendra. After that I became friends with Dabboo (Randhir Kapoor) and Chintu (Rishi Kapoor), so I continued to be a part of those magnificent parties for years. I think from the years 75 to 89 I did not leave a single Holi party, but then Raj Saheb’s health started getting a bit bad and Raj Saheb’s Holi parties stopped.

Raj Kapoor Saheb used to give star -like treatment to small workers

Everyone knows that Holi of the Kapoor family has been the most famous in Bollywood. The Holi party’s tradition launched by Prithviraj Kapoor continued till Raj Kapoor. In the studio, guests were welcomed by pouring a colored bucket. The one who used to Nanakar was picked up and thrown into the pool of colored water. Subhash Ghai says, ‘I remember in the Hooddang of Holi, I used to cannute the guests. There was a lot of dancing and singing with drums, mange and harmonium. Every big star used to be present there, but the most beautiful thing is that Raj Saheb used to call all his/her technicians on this occasion and play Holi with him/her. These used to be all small and big workers like Light Man, Camera Man, Spot Boy, Production Dada. There used to be one member of the unit in his/her Holi. It was the quality of Raj Saheb that he/she used to give as much respect to small people as to some big stars.

Gauri-Shahrukh’s hurdang in Holi party, then Kambli’s blast

Subhash Ghai carried forward the legacy of Raj Kapoor, called the first show man of the industry. he/she says, ‘This is the period when the industry used to gather in the Holi of Mary and Amitabh Bachchan’s house after Raj Kapoor Saheb. Recently you must have seen that a Holi video of Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan became quite viral. he/she belonged to my Mud Island house. At that time, I was doing a trinity with Shahrukh Khan and then Shah Rukh, Gauri, Chunky etc. had come. At that time, Shahrukh-Gauri created a hurry like children. My Holi party also used to come to all the stars as well as cricketers. To be honest, Raj Saheb or Bachchan Saheb made the concept of Holi party, that is why we love each other. Sharing a funny anecdote of his/her Holi party, he/she says, ‘Our Kambli saheb (cricketer Vinod Kambli) is not, he/she is our deep friend. he/she was a very big fan of Madhuri Dixit. he/she told me that Subhash ji, I am coming to Holi, but I have to meet Madhuri. I took a pinch of him/her and said, Oh, you are coming because of Madhuri? Now it is bound to drink cannabis in Holi. Kambli reached our bungalow in Mud Island at 12 o’clock and started dancing and singing, playing Holi and drinking cold, but Madhuri did not come till that time. It was three to four o’clock, Madhuri did not reach even then, by then Kambli Saheb had drunk so much that we had to send her in the car and send them home. Now as soon as his/her car was going, Madhuri’s car was coming from the front. I told Madhuri, your very big fans went unconscious while waiting for you. That story never forgets me. ‘

Holi party had to stop

Apart from Raj Kapoor and Subhash Ghai, Holi discussed at Amitabh Bachchan’s house in Bollywood still takes place today. Subhash Ghai says, ‘I used to go to Amitabh Bachchan’s Holi often. Many times it used to be that I used to go to his/her house and go to his/her house to play Holi. Holi used to be organized here at Bachchan Saheb. But then in 2001, the crime rate increased. We were legally advised that if we have to avoid organizing Holi parties, then our Holi party has been closed. I know that Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi also organize Holi. I have not been able to go there either. But whatever friend and friends come to my house, I play Holi with them very much.
