Srivari Laddu has been in existence for last five years… former priest of Tirupati temple’s claim raises questions on Jagan government’s intentions

New Delhi: The Hindu community is shocked after the lab report confirmed that the ghee used in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s laddus contains animal fat. Meanwhile, a former priest of the temple has made a shocking claim. Former priest Ramana Dikshitulu said that for the last five years, poor quality ghee was being used to make laddus in this temple of Lord Venkateswara. he/she had then complained about it to the officials, but no one paid attention. So, was the faith of the devotees being deliberately mocked for a long time by making laddus with poor quality ghee in the temple during the previous government of Andhra Pradesh?

CM Naidu raised the issue of adulteration

The laddu distributed as prasadam at the Tirupati temple is also called ‘Srivari laddu’. It has been the main prasadam of the temple for more than 300 years. When the new Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government came into power, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the previous YSRCP government was adulterating the laddu. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister claimed that animal fat was being used in place of pure ghee, raising concerns. Naidu said during an NDA meeting in Mangalagiri, “Even after several complaints, the officials failed to maintain the sanctity of the prasadam.” he/she further said, “They have behaved badly… the prasadam offered to the Lord is also impure. Not only are adulterated ingredients used, but they have also used animal fat instead of ghee.”

The cow ghee used to make the prasad had a lot of impurities and was of poor quality. I noticed this many years ago. I put it before the concerned authorities and the chairman of the trust board. But they did not care. It is a lonely battle for me, but now the new government has taken power and it has promised to clean up all the mess. They have already bought pure cow ghee from government dairies and now they are preparing food items with pure ghee. Care should be taken that such mahapas (paap) do not happen again in the temple as it is a holy temple which has deep faith and devotion of crores of devotees.

Ramana Dikshitulu, former priest, Tirupati Temple

Former priest’s claim is sensational

On the other hand, former Tirumala temple priest Ramana Dikshitulu said on Friday, ‘The cow ghee used for making prasad had a lot of impurities and was of poor quality. I had noticed this many years ago. I raised this issue with the concerned officials and the chairman of the trust board, but they did not care at all. I had fought alone then, but now the rumours have spread.’ he/she said, ‘Care should be taken that such grave sins are not repeated in the temple. This is a holy temple in which crores of devotees have great faith and devotion.’ he/she said that the new administration has started ordering pure ghee from government dairies. he/she said, ‘The new government has taken power and has promised to remove all the irregularities. They have already bought pure cow ghee from government dairies and are now preparing food items with pure ghee.’

Was the faith of Hindus being deliberately tampered with?

The Naidu government got the ghee lab tested by the Gujarat-based National Dairy Board and the report confirmed the presence of animal fat. The ghee sample revealed the presence of ‘beef tallow, pig fat and fish oil. The sample was taken on July 9, 2024 and the report came on July 16. The report gave information about possible external fats, which include soybean, sunflower, olive, rapeseed, linseed, wheat germ, corn germ, cottonseed, fish oil, coconut and palm kernel oil, palm oil, beef tallow and lard. Keep in mind that before the TDP, there was a YSR Congress government in Andhra Pradesh and Jaganmohan Reddy used to be the Chief Minister of the state. The former priest’s claim may raise the question whether the Jaganmohan government deliberately started playing with the faith of Hindus and kept violating the sanctity of crores of Hindus as long as it was in power?
