‘Serious’ alert, India loses the second ODI, risk of losing the series for the first time in 18 years


New Delhi. India’s star batsmen fell to Sri Lanka’s spinner Jeffrey Vandersay. Team India lost the second ODI by 32 runs. In the second ODI of the series played at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium, India had a target of 241 runs. Team India collapsed at 208 runs in 42.2 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma played the highest innings of 64 runs for India. The first ODI was a tie. The host team has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Even if the Indian team wins the third ODI to be played on August 7, it cannot win the series. It can definitely draw it. Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a brilliant start to the Indian team chasing the target. Both of them shared a 97-run partnership for the first wicket. After this, half the team returned to the pavilion at a score of 133. Rohit played an innings of 64 runs off 44 balls while Gill scored 35 runs off 44 balls. Shivam Dubey could not even open the account while Virat Kohli scored 14 runs. Shreyas Iyer was dismissed after scoring 7 runs while KL Rahul was out on zero. Axar Patel scored 44 runs. Washington Sundari was dismissed after scoring 15 runs off 40 balls. Mohammad Siraj was dismissed after scoring 4 runs. he/she was dismissed LBW by Aslanka for 4 runs. Arshdeep Singh was run out after scoring 3 runs. Spinner Jeffrey Vandersay took the first 6 wickets of India from Sri Lanka. India’s stalwarts easily got trapped in the web of Vandersay’s spin. Sri Lankan captain Charit Asalanka took 3 wickets.

Sri Lanka scored 240 runs for 9 wickets on the basis of lower order batsmen
Earlier, the Sri Lankan team struggled due to the excellent performance of the Indian spinners led by Washington Sundar. But thanks to the lower order batsmen, they managed to score 240 runs for 9 wickets. Sundar took 3 wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs with one maiden. Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets. Both of them took full advantage of the help they were getting from the pitch. For Sri Lanka, who came to bat after winning the toss, Avishka Fernando contributed 40 runs, Kamindu Mendis 40 runs, Dunith Welalage 39 and Kusal Mendis 30 runs.

Once again, young Velalage played with patience and hit a six each on Akshar and Siraj. he/she got a good partner in the form of Kamindu, who was given a life by Shivam Dubey on Kuldeep’s ball on a score of nine runs. Kuldeep dismissed Velalage but Kamindu played some excellent shots due to which the Sri Lankan team was successful in making a better score than the first ODI. The first ODI was tied. The efforts of the Indian bowlers were not satisfactory in the last five overs due to which Sri Lanka added 44 important runs.
