Second day but the story is exactly the same… This is how political temperatures rose in the winter session of Parliament.

New Delhi: Political heat can be clearly felt in the winter session of Parliament. Parliament proceedings were disrupted on Wednesday due to ruckus by opposition members over various issues including Sambhaal violence and demand for formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the allegations against Adani. The meetings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the whole day after one adjournment each. Today, on the second day of the winter session, proceedings of Zero Hour and Question Hour were disrupted in both the Houses due to uproar by the opposition.

As soon as the Lok Sabha proceedings began on Wednesday morning, Congress members stood up in their places and tried to raise the issue related to Adani Group. Samajwadi Party (SP) members tried to raise the issue of violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla started the Question Hour amid sloganeering by opposition members. Meanwhile, many members of Congress and SP reached near the pedestal and started raising slogans.

Birla reached near the podium and appealed to the sloganeering opposition members to go to their places and allow the Question Hour to continue. Referring to BJP member Arun Govil, he/she said that he/she is asking questions in Question Hour for the first time, hence the proceedings of the House should be allowed to continue. However, the uproar did not stop and the sloganeering by the opposition members continued.

The Lok Sabha Speaker told the sloganeering opposition members, Question Hour is an important time, everyone’s time. You let the question hour go on, you will be given an opportunity to discuss every issue. Amidst the uproar, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha adjourned the proceedings of the House at 11.05 till 12 noon. When the meeting of the lower house started again at 12 noon, the same scene was seen. Opposition members came near the chair and started raising slogans. As the noise continued, the Lok Sabha meeting was adjourned for the day at 12.10.

On the other hand, as soon as the proceedings of the House started in Rajya Sabha, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that he/she has received a total of 18 notices under Rule 267 for discussion on Adani, Manipur violence, Sambhal violence and increasing cases of crime in Delhi. he/she rejected all the notices. Aam Aadmi Party’s Sanjay Singh had given notice for discussion on the increasing cases of crime in the capital Delhi. Chairman Dhankhar rejected all the notices and said that members can raise these issues under other provisions.

Immediately after this, Congress and other opposition members started creating ruckus. Before the uproar could escalate further, Dhankhar adjourned the House at 11:11 am till 11:30 am. Again, when the proceedings of the House began, the Chairman requested the members to remain seated in their respective places and maintain order so that the listed business could be transacted. However, despite this, some members stood at their places and kept raising slogans and creating ruckus. After this Dhankhar adjourned the proceedings of the House for the day. (with agency input)
