Saif Ali Khan is the 10th Nawab of Pataudi. It is said that if you want to see the royal style of this Nawabi family, then see the Pataudi Palace, which is also known as ‘Ibrahim Kothi’. Currently, there is a dispute going on regarding the ancestral property of Saif’s family. It is being said that Saif’s father’s property worth Rs 15,000 crore in Bhopal can go into government possession. No one in the entire Khan family will get this property. Not even Saif. However, he/she is the heir to the Pataudi Palace, which is maintained and managed by his/her mother Sharmila Tagore. This palace was built by Iftikhar Ali Khan of Saif. But there is an interesting story behind it. Saif’s grandfather had become penniless in getting it built. There was no money even to install marble, so we had to make do with carpet and cement. But the Pataudi family and their generations did not live in this Pataudi palace from the beginning. Rather, before this his/her place was Akbar Manzil. It was constructed during the reign of Nawab Muhammad Akbar Ali. Many generations of Pataudi family lived in it till the year 1941.

But today the condition of this palace is barren. Saif’s grandfather Iftikhar Ali Khan also lived here. But Soha Ali Khan had also told the story of why she had to shift from Akbar Manzil and why Pataudi Palace had to be built.

Story before Second World War, Nawaz of Bhopal rejected Saif’s grandfather

This story is from the time when the Second World War had not even started. It is said that the Nawab of Bhopal had rejected the marriage of his/her daughter Sajida Sultan with the Pataudi family. The Nawab had said that the Akbar Manzil where the Pataudi family lives is too small for his/her daughter. Sajida was related to Saif’s grandfather Iftikhar Ali Khan. Iftikhar loved Sajida Sultan very much. But he/she could not tolerate the rejection.

Becomes poor while trying to impress father-in-law, runs out of money to build Pataudi Palace

Soha had told about this in an interview given on Cyrus Broacha’s YouTube channel that her grandmother was the Begum of Bhopal and her grandfather was the Nawab of Pataudi. Grandfather Iftikhar loved his/her grandmother for many years, but he/she did not get permission to marry her. Therefore, Iftikhar built Padaudi Mahal to impress his/her future father-in-law. But in this affair he/she became poor.

Didn’t have money for marble, so left it by putting cement under the carpet

According to Soha, Dada had built this palace in the year 1935 so that she could get married. But all his/her money was exhausted in building this palace. The situation had become such that there was no money left even to buy marble. In such a situation, many places in Pataudi Palace were left with only carpet and cement underneath it. Even today, there are many carpets spread in Pataudi Palace.

Saif is the grandson of Iftikhar and Sajida, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was his/her son.

Later the Nawab of Bhopal married his/her daughter Sajida Sultan to Iftikhar Ali Khan. After marriage, Sajida and Iftikhar became parents of son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and three daughters. Mansoor then married Sharmila and became parents of two daughters and son Saif.

Saif has ownership rights of Pataudi Palace

Soha had told that grandfather Iftikhar Ali Khan had later transferred the Pataudi palace to his/her son Mansoor. And after Mansoor Ali Khan, its ownership went to Saif Ali Khan and he/she still has it today.
