‘Politics should not interfere in this’, Indian students ‘disappointed’ over closure of Canada’s SDS program

Canada SDS Program: It is now becoming difficult for Indians to study in Canada. The situation in Canada, which was once considered the best country for Indian students, is now worsening. Earlier, Indian students were troubled due to diplomatic tension and now the visa program considered most favorable for them has been stopped. Canada has recently discontinued the fast-track Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa program, which has worried Indian students.
Through this visa program, students used to get study permit in a very short time. It was very popular among those Indians who wanted to study in Canada. The students have not only been stunned by this sudden step taken by the Canadian government, but they also seem worried about their future. Many Indian students have expressed their sorrows. he/she has said that the Canadian government has mixed politics into studies, which is causing a lot of problems.

Politics should not interfere: Indian student

Speaking to news agency ANI, a student from Chandigarh, who is preparing to study in Canada, expressed her concern. She said, “I wanted to go to Canada, but now the visa has stopped. This is not right because many Indian students want to study abroad. It is also wrong to do politics in this.” The student said, “It is not right to stop the visa midway. We will be deprived of a lot of opportunities and our jobs. Politics should not interfere in this.”

Decision will have negative impact: Visa counselor

Visa counselor Rahul Arora also expressed concern, saying that this would have a negative impact on the ambitions and dreams of students. Students’ dreams will also be affected. he/she said, “This decision will definitely have a negative impact. I think it will have an impact on the ambitions and dreams of the children to grow and study, the dreams that they have been dreaming of for years. I think That this is an unfavorable decision for both the countries.”

What was the SDS program?

The SDS program was launched in 2018. These students from India, China, Pakistan, Brazil and other countries were given early visas. Students used to get visa within 20 days if they fulfilled all the conditions. This program was suddenly stopped on 8 November. Nigeria Student Express (NSE) has also been launched for Nigerian students. However, applications submitted before the deadline will be processed under SDS and NSE.
