Special research needed
University President Professor KK Aggarwal says that disaster management is a big challenge for all countries. The problem of landslides occurs in hilly areas everywhere in India, Nepal or Sri Lanka. Now the time has come to move away from traditional research and make discoveries that work towards reducing the devastation caused by climate change. India has a very long sea line, which is also connected to SAARC countries. In such a situation, if special research is done together, everyone will benefit from it.
Now Interdisciplinary Center of Excellence on Climate Change, Green Transition and Sustainability has been started in the university, which will be responsible for this campaign. Every country has its own experiences and work will be done by learning from everyone’s problems and experiences. The research roadmap of South Asian University is being made in such a way that it will set an example at the global level.
Important role of AI in health field
Although Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used in all areas, but it has great importance in the field of health. Professor Aggarwal says that currently there is more focus on the treatment of the disease, but there is a need for a preventive healthcare vision. If success is achieved in how AI can be used in health care prevention, then there will be a new revolution in the health sector in the country. Healthcare facilities are now much better in India but there is a lack of health facilities for people in other SAARC countries. In such a situation, it is important that people fall sick less, this will benefit poor countries.
Solutions can be found by studying what work is being done in SAARC countries on topics like public health education, climate change. Solutions can be given to governments. There are some common issues of all SAARC countries, which include disaster management, climate change, artificial intelligence, land slides, tsunami, cyclones and health related issues. The university will now work in new areas. Landslide is a geological phenomenon. Surface movements like slipping or falling of stones, flow of rocky soil, come under this.
Some suggestions from NDMA regarding landslides
National Disaster Management Authority has worked in this direction and has also given some suggestions. Like keeping drains clean, growing more trees to prevent soil erosion through its roots. Identify rockfalls, tilted and sunken buildings, and cracked areas that indicate landslides. If there is muddy or muddy water in the river then it also indicates landslide.
