Only 2 places confirmed in IPL playoffs, 2 teams out, tussle between 6

New Delhi. 59 matches have been played in this season of the Indian Premier League but till now no team’s place has been confirmed in the playoffs. The places of the top two teams in the points table seem almost certain but they too have not got the tag of qualification. After the defeat of Chennai Super Kings against Gujarat Titans, the problem has become even more complicated. Now the equations are such that even the team that reaches 14 points has opened its doors.

On Friday, in the 59th match of the Indian Premier League, Gujarat Titans defeated the current champion Chennai Super Kings in a one-sided match. Captain Shubman Gill’s century came in the most important match for the team. Sai Sudarshan also scored a century and the team made a mountain-like score of 231 runs against Chennai. While chasing the target, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team could reach only 196 runs for 8 wickets. Gujarat kept its playoff hopes alive by winning by a huge margin of 35 runs.

Places confirmed for only 2 teams
At present, the teams Kolkata and Rajasthan, occupying the top two positions in the points table, seem to be sure of their place in the playoffs. Both of them have 16 points after 11-11 matches. With just one win in their remaining three matches, the tickets of these teams will be completely confirmed. In this, both the teams will play one match among themselves. Rajasthan is yet to play against Chennai and Punjab while Kolkata has to play the remaining two matches against Mumbai and Gujarat.

2 teams out, fighting between 6
Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings teams are officially out of IPL 2024. Even after winning their remaining two matches, both will reach only 12 points. Which is not enough to reach the playoffs. Sunrisers Hyderabad is on 14 points and still has two more matches to play. This team has the strongest claim for playoff among the remaining 6 teams. Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants have 12 points each. For all this, victory in the next two matches is necessary.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have made a strong comeback after losing six consecutive matches and scored a four-match win. Gujarat team has also kept its hopes alive by defeating Chennai. Both these teams have a chance to reach 14 points by winning the next two remaining matches. If the top teams also remain below 14 points, then Bangalore and Gujarat can also make it to the race for the playoffs. The decision has to be taken on the basis of better net run rate.
