Now every doctor will have a unique ID, all MBBS doctors must register

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has started the registration process for all MBBS doctors on the new portal (http://www.nmc.org.in). All doctors are required to register on the recently launched NMC portal. This will give doctors a unique ID to practice in India. Doctors who are already registered on the Indian Medical Register (IMR) will also be required to register on the National Medical Register (NMR). All medical colleges, institutes, and state medical councils will be linked to this portal. This is how it will work
NMC and National Health Authority have jointly developed this portal, which will be a database of all allopathic (MBBS) doctors in India. Health Ministry officials say that till now there was a lack of comprehensive data that could report in detail on aspects such as the total number of doctors in the country, the number and details of doctors who left the country, lost their license to practice or lost their lives. Data of more than 13 lakh doctors will be available on this portal. NMR has been made a part of the Healthcare Professional Registry under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which will have complete details of medical professionals.

What did the NMC Secretary say?
NMC secretary Dr B Srinivas said that NMR is now ready for registration of registered medical practitioners (RMPs). NMC said in a recent public notice that all MBBS doctors registered in the Indian Medical Register (IMR) will now have to re-register on NMR. Also, all medical colleges/institutions, state medical councils (SMCs) are interlinked on this portal.
