The NIA raided the hideouts of 11 suspected members of an organization named Hizb-ut-Tahrir, who were allegedly involved in anti-national activities in the state. In this, the team recovered many important documents, digital devices, cash and other literature related to the organization. The NIA said that this raid was done as part of the investigation of a case related to creating discontent through various social media handles and running a campaign against exercising the electoral franchise. Hizb-ut-Tahrir has considered the electoral franchise as un-Islamic or ‘haram’. Hizb-ut-Tahrir has been identified as an organization harboring the intention of establishing an Islamic caliphate.

The investigation was handed over to the NIA in July

The NIA said that it had taken over the investigation from the Chennai police in July this year. In this case, an organization named Hizb-ut-Tahrir and its members are accused of being involved in anti-national activities like anti-election and establishing Islamic rule in the country. During the investigation in this connection, different teams of the NIA raided the houses of 11 suspects in Chennai, Tambaram and Kanyakumari districts on Tuesday. The team reached their homes and other hideouts.

Hameed Hussain is the mastermind

It is alleged that the organization is involved in activities related to creating discontent among people through social media handles and campaigning to stop voting in the elections. In this case, the NIA has described a person named Hamid Hussain as the main mastermind. Investigation has revealed that the main accused and five others had also held a meeting with some people of the group to work against the country. The NIA is investigating the matter.
