New OTT release: Salim-Javed’s untold story, Kalki 2898 AD, Ryan… 8 new films and series this week

This time the new week has started with festivities and enthusiasm. On August 19, Raksha Bandhan, the festival of the unbreakable bond between brother and sister, is being celebrated across the country. While Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao’s ‘Stree 2’ is making bumper earnings at the box office, OTT has a lot in store in this new week. This week is full of gifts especially for Hindi audiences. While we will get to see the untold story of Bollywood’s greatest screenwriter duo Salim-Javed in the form of a documentary, Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan’s film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which proved to be a blockbuster in theaters, is also going to be released on OTT. Apart from this, Urfi Javed’s atrangi story ‘Follow Kar Lo Yaar’ and Dhanush’s superhit film ‘Raayan’ are also arriving on OTT. Angry Young Men: The Salim Javed Story (August 20)

This documentary series brings the untold story of Hindi cinema’s greatest screenplay writer duo Salim-Javed. The duo of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar ruled the world of cinema in the 1970s and 1980s. They not only gave India great films like ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Sholay’, ‘Deewar’, ‘Mr. India’, but also gave cinema a superstar like Amitabh Bachchan and recognition to cinema writers. Salim-Javed were the first screenplay writers whose names were written on the posters of films. This was the time when Salim-Javed used to charge more than the lead actor for writing the screenplay of a film. But then one day suddenly this duo broke up. Why this happened was never discussed openly. In such a situation, now through this documentary series, the untouched and untold story of these writers, their families and Bollywood veterans is coming. This documentary series will stream on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video from August 20.

Terror Tuesday: Extreme (August 20)

This is a Thai-horror anthology series. The story of ‘Terror Tuesday: Extreme’ is inspired by the famous radio show ‘Angkhan Khlumpong’ (Terror Tuesday) and has eight episodes. All different from each other. Each of these episodes has been directed by different legends. It presents some of the most terrifying stories ever told on a radio show in great depth. This anthology has the power to send shivers down even in the darkest corners of a human mind. This series will stream on the OTT platform Netflix from August 20.

Grrr.. (20 August)

Grrr.. is a Malayalam film that released in theatres in June. It is a survival-comedy film in which a drunk, heartbroken lover reaches a zoo and jumps into the lion’s enclosure. A zoo guard bravely jumps in to save him/her, but he/she also gets trapped. Now that both are in danger, the two do stupid things to escape from the lion. The film stars Kunchacko Boban and Suraj Venjaramoodu in the lead roles. The film will release on OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar on August 20. It will also be available in Hindi.

Kalki 2898 AD (22 August)

After rocking the box office for nearly two months, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is now premiering on OTT. This all-time blockbuster film of Nag Ashwin has made a net collection of Rs 646.05 crore in the country. While worldwide it has grossed Rs 1041.92 crore. The story of this film is a unique blend of Indian mythology and futuristic science. The film stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan in lead roles. The film is the story of the 10th and final reincarnation of Lord Vishnu and a dystopian world. The film will stream on the OTT platform Netflix from August 22.

Follow me friend (23 August)

We all are familiar with the name of Urfi Javed. From ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ to every day, Urfi remains in the news for her quirky avatar. Whether you like her or not, you cannot ignore her. But why is Urfi like this? What does she want to achieve? The answer to these and similar questions is going to be found in this unscripted reality series ‘Follow Kar Lo Yaar’. In this, we will get a chance to know the life of Urfi Javed closely. In nine episodes, this show will connect us with Urfi’s daily life, her quirky clothes, the world of paparazzi and influencers. ‘Follow Kar Lo Yaar’ will stream on OTT from August 23 on Amazon Prime Video.

Ryan (August 23)

Superstar Dhanush’s film ‘Raayan’, which released in theatres on 26 July last month, was in the news a lot. Dhanush has also directed this Tamil film and he/she is also in the lead role in it. This powerful action-drama has done a business of Rs 94.45 crore at the box office in the country. Dhanush has brought a story in his/her 50th film, in which an ordinary person gets immersed in the world of gangsters and crime. The film also stars SJ Surya and Prakash Raj. The film will be released on OTT platform Amazon Prime Video on August 23.

The Frog (August 23)

This time a suspense thriller is coming on OTT for K-drama lovers. ‘The Frog’ takes you into the dark and mysterious world of Jeon Young-ha, who runs a deserted motel in the forest. When the guests start arriving, the anxiety in the series starts increasing. These include Goo Sang-Joon and the mysterious Yoo Seong-Ha. Every guest arriving at the motel has a secret. Strange incidents start happening due to increasing tension, which the police are also investigating. This web series will stream on OTT platform Netflix on 23 August.

Incoming (August 23)

This is an R-rated teen comedy. R-rated means that children under 14 years of age should be watched under adult supervision. ‘Incoming’ revolves around four high school students. They are about to attend their first high school party. They have a strange excitement. This series by Bobby Cannavale and Kaitlin Olson gives a new look to the teen comedy genre. This series may remind you of films like ‘American Pie’, ‘Project X’ and ‘Superbad’. The film ‘Incoming’ will be released on OTT platform Netflix on August 23.
