Movie Review: The horrific ‘exile’ of parents abandoned by their children

Anil Sharma has been considered a director of action films due to the unprecedented success of two explosive action films of the ‘Gadar franchise’, but almost four decades ago, he/she laid the foundation of his/her career with ‘Shraddhajanli’ and ‘Bandhan Kachcha Dhaag Ka. ‘Just like it was kept from the family drama. After years they have returned with the same family genre. Undoubtedly, his/her intentions seem clear and true, but the slow pace of the story and subplots hinder it.

Story of ‘Vanvas’

The story of ‘Vanvas’ takes us to the world of ingratitude, helplessness, loneliness and pain of children, with which Tyagi (Nana Patekar) is struggling. Tyagi, who is suffering from advanced dementia (memory loss disease), has a large family of three married sons and grandchildren. Under no circumstances does the son want his/her father to turn his/her luxurious house into a trust. With the intention of getting rid of his/her ill and angry father and taking over his/her property, the sons take Tyagi to Banaras and spread the news that Tyagi died by drowning in the Ganga.

Here Tyagi meets Biru Valyantar, who cleans his/her hands and straightens his/her forehead in Banaras. ‘Vanvas’ Movie Review

Every day we read incidents of greedy and selfish children abandoning their parents and we have also seen many films on such abandoned parents like ‘Swarg’ and ‘Baghban’, so director Anil Sharma tried emotional. They come up with a safe story along with the remedies, but the pace of this story is slow. At many places the film seems stretched, although the director has tried his/her best to make the melodrama entertaining by adding comic scenes.

Anil Sharma, known for his/her grand taking, has left no stone unturned here too. Kabir Lal’s cinematography is fantastic. In the emotional and sad scenes, be it the snow falling from the top angle or the bright colors of the Banaras ghat, his/her cinematography has blossomed.

Talking about music, the song ‘Geeli Maachis’ along with the title track has become a good song. Yes, the sub-plots of the film create hindrances from time to time, but the climax definitely makes the eyes wet.

Talking about acting, Nana Patekar is the pillar of the film. he/she has very well lived the pain, hope, despair and anguish of an elderly person who suffered the pain of exile by children. Utkarsh Sharma has proved himself in his/her role. The chemistry between him/her and Nana Patekar has become good. Simrat Kaur Randhawa looks beautiful and has done justice to the character she has played. Rajpal Yadav and Ashwini Kalsekar have managed to add humorous moments. The supporting cast is fine.

Why watch- If you are fond of family films, then you can watch this film.
