Modi is not going to the annual debate of UN General Assembly, PM is sending his/her most trusted minister, know the reason

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not address the annual debate at the United Nations General Assembly session later this month. This is due to his/her busy tour in the month of September. Modi is scheduled to visit New York during this period and will address a mega community event at the 16,000-seat Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island on September 22. he/she will also address the United Nations’ historic ‘Summit of the Future’, which is being held on September 22 and 23 at the headquarters of the world body. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will be sent to this UN event in place of PM Modi.

Not PM Modi, but Jaishankar will go now

The United Nations had prepared a provisional list of speakers for the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) released in July.
It was reported that PM Modi would address this high level debate to be held on September 26. However, according to the revised provisional list of speakers released by the United Nations on Friday, now External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will address the general debate on September 28. A note signed by Movses Abelian, Under-Secretary-General for the United Nations General Assembly and Conference Management, along with the list, said that the revised list of speakers has been prepared taking into account the changes in the level of representation (upgrade and downgrade).

How long will the program run?

This year, the General Debate session of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) will be held from September 24 to 30. Brazil, traditionally being the first speaker in the debate, will inaugurate the high-level session on September 24. US President Joe Biden will then deliver the final address of his/her current term. The US has presidential elections in November. Modi was sworn in for a historic third term as India’s prime minister in June and last addressed the annual UN General Assembly session in September 2021. he/she also visited the UN headquarters on June 21 last year, leading the way.Know the complete program
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will present his/her report before the general debate begins, which will be followed by an address by the President of the 79th session of the General Assembly. Guterres is convening an ambitious Summit on the Future at UN Headquarters, with working days scheduled for September 20 and 21 and the summit scheduled for September 22 and 23.

World leaders will meet at the UN to adopt a deal for the future, which will include a global digital compact and a declaration on future generations as annexes. The UN said the summit is a high-level event that brings together world leaders to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future. More than 24,000 members of the Indian diaspora have signed up for a community event in Long Island to hear Modi’s address.
