Lok Sabha proceedings adjourned for the day within 1 minute, what happened on the first day of the winter session?

New Delhi: On Monday, the first day of Parliament’s winter session, the Lok Sabha meeting was adjourned for the day within a minute of resuming after a single adjournment and no legislative business, including Question Hour, was transacted. At the commencement of the Lower House meeting, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed the House about the demise of current Lok Sabha members Vasant Rao Chavan and Nurul Islam and former members MM Lawrence, M Parvati and Harish Chandra Devarao Chavan. The House observed silence for a few moments and paid tribute to the deceased MPs and former members. After this, some opposition members were heard trying to raise the issue related to Adani and the violence that took place in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and amidst the uproar, Birla almost At 11:05 the House proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the House before the start of the meeting, the members of the ruling party including the Union Ministers stood at their places and raised slogans of Modi-Modi.

As soon as the House meeting resumed at 12 noon, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dharmendra Yadav and some other party members were seen trying to raise the issue of Sambhal violence. During this time, SP President Akhilesh Yadav was also standing in the front line of the opposition. Members of other opposition parties were also trying to raise various issues.

Presiding Speaker Sandhya Rai urged the ruckus opposition members to allow the proceedings of the House to continue. As the noise continued, he/she adjourned the House meeting for the day within a minute. There will be no meeting of the Lok Sabha on Tuesday on the occasion of Constitution Day (26 November). Lok Sabha proceedings will now resume on Wednesday. (with agency input)
