Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: CAA’s bet also backfired, BJP suffered a big loss in West Bengal

New Delhi: The Government of India had issued the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2024 in the country on March 11. After which people in many states were also given Indian citizenship. However, implementing CAA before the elections has become a problem for BJP in West Bengal. In fact, the trends coming out from West Bengal on the day of counting of votes today are going to disappoint BJP. In the initial trends, BJP seems to be getting a setback in the state. In this state with 42 Lok Sabha seats, TMC is leading with 29 seats. Whereas BJP is seen getting only 10 seats and Congress two seats.

West Bengal’s electoral mathematics changed in the initial trends

During the Lok Sabha elections, many big BJP leaders including PM Modi had held many rallies in this state. However, the effect of these rallies is not visible in the initial trends. BJP is seen getting only 10 seats so far. Let us tell you that the exit polls released two days ago are also completely different from these trends. In the exit polls, BJP was seen getting 28 to 31 seats in the state. At the same time, TMC had got 11-14 seats, but the trends so far are completely different from this.

According to the Election Commission website, BJP’s heavyweight candidate and state president Sukanta Majumdar is trailing his/her nearest rival Trinamool’s Biplab Mitra by 4,855 votes in Balurghat seat. BJP candidate S S Ahluwalia is ahead of his/her nearest rival Trinamool’s Shatrughan Sinha by 6,956 votes in West Bengal’s Asansol seat. Trinamool candidate Arup Chakraborty has taken a lead of 3,765 votes over BJP candidate and sitting MP Subhas Sarkar in Bankura Lok Sabha seat.

Mamta Banerjee opposed CAA

While addressing a public meeting on the occasion of Eid, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had said that she would not allow UCC, NRC and CAA to be implemented. Many opposition leaders including Mamata Banerjee are still opposing CAA. However, despite the opposition, people in West Bengal were given Indian citizenship on 29 May under the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules 2024.
