Rescue and relief work started immediately

Immediately after the incident, the ‘Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’ launched rescue and relief operations. A ‘Disaster Management Team’ of the Shrine Board was immediately dispatched to the site to assist in rescue efforts and provide assistance to the affected people.

The CEO of the Shrine Board confirmed the occurrence of landslides as well as “rock fall”, posing a challenge for rescue teams on the ground. The movement of devotees on the new track to the temple has been stopped for now.

Why is the new track special?

Himkoti Track is a new track. It was built to make the journey easier for pilgrims and reduce the crowd on the traditional route. This track has been popular among devotees since the beginning. Although this path was built very strongly, there was heavy rain in Vaishno Devi in ​​the last two days, due to which there has been a landslide and stone falling from the mountain on the track.

From which track will the pilgrims be able to travel

Pilgrims planning to visit Mata Vaishno Devi temple are advised to be aware of all the guidelines issued by the Shrine Board and follow the safety instructions. At present, the new track leading to the temple has been closed, but instead the journey is continuing through the old track.

The accident has already happened before

In view of the landslide, movement on the route has been temporarily stopped. Relief and rescue work is going on. The administration has urged the pilgrims to be cautious during the journey and proceed keeping in mind the condition of the road. Let us tell you, this is the second incident of landslide here in the last 20 days. Earlier, on August 15, a landslide occurred on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra route near Dakshin Deori. This accident also happened during heavy rains.

Most devotees came last year

Every year millions of devotees visit the Vaishno Devi temple. In the year 2023, 9.35 million devotees visited the temple. In a decade, the highest number of devotees was seen in 2023. The previous record was 9.324 million devotees in 2013.
