Pilgrims lost their lives due to a landslide on the Himkoti track leading to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, the landslide occurred on September 2 at around 2:35 pm near Panchi, which is about three kilometers away from the main temple complex building. The sudden landslide also damaged a part of the iron structure, making the situation critical.

Now the movement of pilgrims on the track has been stopped. Officials said, the impact of the landslide was so severe that people lost their lives, while more pilgrims are feared to be trapped under the debris. Rescue and relief work started immediately

Immediately after the incident, the ‘Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’ launched rescue and relief operations. A ‘Disaster Management Team’ of the Shrine Board was immediately dispatched to the site to assist in rescue efforts and provide assistance to the affected people.

The CEO of the Shrine Board confirmed the occurrence of landslides as well as “rock fall”, posing a challenge for rescue teams on the ground. The movement of devotees on the new track to the temple has been stopped for now.

This accident also happened during heavy rains.
