Kolkata can reach the final without playing a match, how are such equations being formed?

New Delhi. The season so far in the Indian Premier League has been very exciting. The playoff lining up was decided after the last league match. The last league match of the season between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals could not be played due to rain. Kolkata made it to the playoffs by topping the points table while Rajasthan team slipped to third place. Sunrisers Hyderabad has secured the second position while Royal Challengers Bangalore made it to the playoffs by being at fourth position.

IPL 2024 has moved towards its last stage. Everyone’s eyes are fixed on whether the playoffs will also be affected after the rain disruption in the league matches. IPL qualifier is to be played on 21st May i.e. Tuesday. There will be a match between Kolkata and Hyderabad in Ahmedabad. Although there is no shadow of rain on this match, but we will tell you what will happen in case the match gets affected.

Who will benefit from the disruption caused by the rain?
If there is any disruption in the IPL Qualifier due to rain, then it will be the responsibility of the umpire to make it at least 5 overs each. If this is not possible then the result will be decided through super over. Even if rain does not allow the Super Over to take place, the ranking of the points table will decide the team that will reach the finals. Kolkata team is at the top and Hyderabad is the second team. Therefore, in case the match is not held, Gautam Gambhir’s team will reach the IPL final without playing.

Hyderabad will get a second chance
After the league matches in IPL, the qualifier is played between the top two teams in the points table. The winning team directly reaches the finals while the losing team gets a chance to play the winner of the third and fourth placed team. Even if Hyderabad’s match with Kolkata is washed out due to rain, it will still get a second chance to make it to the finals.
