Karishma’s ‘four’, West Indies’ second consecutive win, path to semi-finals becomes easy


New Delhi. West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets due to the brilliant bowling of spinner Karishma Rahmairak. With this victory, West Indies’ chances of reaching the semi-finals of T20 Women’s World Cup 2024 have been strengthened. Karishma took 4 wickets. After this, the West Indies batsmen performed brilliantly and defeated Bangladesh with 43 balls to spare. West Indies have reached the top of Group B with four points from two consecutive wins and a net run rate of 1.708. Due to this defeat, Bangladesh’s net run rate became -0.835.

After being invited to bat, Bangladesh team could score only 103 runs for 8 wickets. West Indies (WI vs BAN) won by scoring 104 runs for two wickets in 12.5 overs. Captain Hayley Mathews was the top scorer for West Indies by scoring 34 runs in 22 balls. Stafanie Taylor scored 27 runs and Shaman Campbell scored 21 runs before retiring hurt. Diandra Dottin scored unbeaten 19 runs in seven balls with two sixes and one four. Diandra took West Indies to the target by hitting two powerful sixes in the 13th over.

Nigar Sultana scored the highest 39 runs for Bangladesh.
Earlier, like the previous two matches, Bangladesh’s batting unit failed to score runs in this match too in which captain Nigar Sultana was the top scorer with 39 runs. Apart from him/her, Dilara Akhtar contributed 19 runs. Shobhana Mostari helped Bangladesh post a competitive score against Scotland and was the top scorer with 44 against England. But she could score only 16 runs. Apart from Charisma, Affy Fletcher took two wickets for 25 runs for West Indies. Captain Haley Mathews got one wicket. Captain Mathews won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat and their bowler Karishma made a good start by taking one wicket each in her two overs.

Only 9 fours were hit in Bangladesh’s innings.
After getting Bangladesh’s opening batsman Sathi Rani stumped out, Karishma bowled Dilara Akhtar (19 runs) due to which two wickets had fallen for 33 runs. Shobhana and Sultana made a partnership of 40 runs for the third wicket, taking the score to 73 runs. But then Karishma got Shobhana stumped by the wicketkeeper. Taj Nahar and Shorna Akhtar returned to the pavilion as soon as they arrived, due to which the score became 75 runs for five wickets. Ritu Moni (10 runs) became the fourth victim of Karishma. In the last over, West Indies captain Mathews dismissed Bangladesh captain Nigar and Fahima Khatoon was run out. Only nine fours were hit in Bangladesh’s innings.
