According to information available on flight tracking website Flightradar24, the flight was being operated by an A320 aircraft. IndiGo said that though the airline had no direct involvement, the flight was diverted to Penang as a necessary precaution to ensure the safety of passengers.
Some people also informed about the diversion of the plane through social media platforms. IndiGo issued a statement saying that due to adverse weather conditions in Phuket, flight 6E 1701 from Mumbai to Phuket was diverted to the nearest airport, Penang in Malaysia. Now it has reached Phuket.
