Indian students do not want to study in Britain, UK universities are worried, know the reason for not taking admission.

Indian students in UK universities: Indian students are avoiding applying to British universities. This has been revealed in a new report released on the conditions of universities. Due to Indians avoiding taking admission, the financial difficulties of universities, which are already running on tight budget, have increased. The Office for Students (OfS) has released an analysis based on the UK Home Office’s ‘Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies’ (CAS) data from 2022-23 to 2023-24.
The OfS report showed a 20.4% decline in the number of Indian students, from 1,39,914 to 1,11,329. According to the report, not only India but students from many countries have started avoiding taking admission in Britain. OfS, a non-departmental public body of the Department for Education, reported that the total number of sponsor acceptances issued to international students has fallen by 11.8 per cent. The number of Indian and Nigerian students has declined the least.

British universities will suffer losses worth billions of rupees

The report warns that universities with financial models that rely heavily on students in countries like India, Nigeria and Bangladesh are going to be greatly affected by this declining trend. “There has been a significant decline in the number of international students from some countries that send significant numbers of students to study in the UK,” the OfS warned. It has been said in the report that if the current situation continues like this, then due to this, British universities are going to suffer a loss of billions of rupees.

Why do Indian students not want to come to Britain?

Indian student groups say admissions have fallen due to fewer job opportunities and security concerns following anti-immigration riots in some cities. The Indian National Students Association (INSA) UK said it was not surprised by the decline in the number of Indian students as the government has tightened rules for foreign students to bring along their dependent partners (family members) and spouses.

INSA UK President Amit Tiwari said, “Under the new policy, students are not allowed to bring their dependents to the UK. Given the economic situation here and the recent stories of riots, until the government resolves this issue Until then, the condition of British universities is going to remain bad. The universities here are very dependent on Indian students.”

Sanam Arora, chairperson of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK, said, “The numbers have declined due to a number of reasons, including the Conservative Party’s ban on dependents, confusion over post-study work visas, increase in the skilled workers salary cap. And that includes the loss of jobs in Britain.”
