India Canada News: Absurd, baseless… India rejected Canada’s allegations against Amit Shah, summoned the High Commissioner and told him/her the truth.

New Delhi : India has taken action on Canada’s allegations regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Indian Foreign Department has given information in this regard. The Foreign Ministry said that we had summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission on Friday. It contained a diplomatic note submitted in the context of the proceedings of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa on October 29, 2024. The note said that the Government of India opposes in the strongest terms the absurd and baseless references made before the Committee by Deputy Minister David Morrison to the Union Home Minister of India.

Strategy to defame India

In fact, it is revealing that a senior Canadian official deliberately leaked baseless allegations to the international media as part of a conscious strategy to defame India and influence other countries. This only confirms the Indian government’s long-held view about the political agenda and behavioral patterns of the current Canadian government. Such irresponsible actions will have serious consequences for bilateral relations.

Questions on surveillance of diplomats

The Ministry of External Affairs said that some of our consular officers were recently informed by the Government of Canada that they are under audio and video surveillance. Their communication has also been disrupted. “We have formally protested to the Government of Canada as we consider these actions to be a gross violation of relevant diplomatic and consular conventions,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Canada’s action will worsen the situation

The Foreign Ministry said that by citing technicalities, the Government of Canada cannot justify the fact that it has engaged in harassment and intimidation. Our diplomatic and consular personnel are already working in an environment of extremism and violence. This action by the Government of Canada escalates the situation and is inconsistent with established diplomatic norms and practices.

What was Canada’s allegation?

A Canadian minister on Tuesday alleged that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered a campaign of violence, intimidation and intelligence gathering targeting Sikh separatists living in Canada. Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison had told MPs who are members of the National Security Committee that he/she had confirmed Shah’s name with the ‘Washington Post’. Referring to Shah, Morrison told the committee that the journalist called me and asked if he/she was the same person. I confirmed that it was the same person.
