The third match was played at Sydney Cricket Ground. Which was a draw. In this match, injured Hanuma Vihari and Ravichandran Ashwin batted for almost 3 hours and saved the match by playing 259 balls. , While batting, both Hanuma Vihari (23) and Ravichandran Ashwin (39) were injured, but both the players remained at the crease like a ‘wall’ and snatched the victory of Sydney Test from the jaws of Australia. Earlier on the fifth day, Rishabh Pant (97) and Cheteshwar Pujara (77) played brilliant innings. Virat Kohli did not play the third test.

In the fourth test match, Australia batted first and scored 369 runs. In response, India lost its 6 wickets for 186 runs. India could score only 336 runs in the first innings. Which included 62 and 67 runs of Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur respectively. India was still 33 runs behind. Australia scored 294 runs in the second innings. After which India got the target of 328 runs to win. India achieved this score with 3 wickets remaining. Shubhman Gill had scored 91 runs in the second innings, while Pujara had scored 56 runs and Pant had scored 89 runs.
