New Delhi. The Indian cricket team has faced two big defeats in three months. First, New Zealand beat us 3-0 at home. After this, Australia snatched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by defeating them 3-1. After both these defeats, two players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were criticized the most. Both of them started getting advice for retirement. Rohit’s retirement seems close but the same cannot be said about Virat. Virat would hardly take such a decision and if he/she is listening to Michael Clarke then the selectors would also hardly put any such pressure on him/her.
Captain Michael Clarke, who won the World Cup for Australia, said that if he/she had been the captain, he/she would have fought with the team management to save Kohli. Michael Clarke said in Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, ‘It is true that Virat could not score runs as expected in the last matches. But this player has amazing talent. he/she is Virat Kohli. This player can score a double century tomorrow.
Michael Clarke further said, ‘he/she is an excellent player. They can play further. he/she should play as long as his/her best game is left. If he/she retires from Test cricket now, there is only one team that will suffer from it and that is India. Virat Kohli was able to score only 190 runs in 5 matches on the Australia tour. he/she scored a century in the first match of the series, but could not score a fifty after that.
Despite this performance of Kohli, Michael Clarke says, ‘If I were the captain of a team in which Virat Kohli was there, I would fight to keep him/her with me. Even if Virat had not scored as many runs as he/she could have scored.
