New Delhi: Congress has started preparations for the Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections in full swing. The only aim of Congress is to defeat BJP badly in the elections. Senior Congress leaders have started working on the strategy. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary KC Venugopal held a meeting with Congress Screening Committee (CSC) members at the AICC in Delhi. After the meeting of Congress Screening Committee members on alliance for the upcoming state elections, party general secretary KC Venugopal said, ‘Wherever we have a state committee, they are planning alliances. Our main objective is to defeat BJP in all 4 states.’ Venugopal said, ‘Today we discussed the preparations for the elections in all four states, the process of selection of candidates was discussed. We will win in all four states. There will be a Congress Election Committee (CEC) meeting on Jammu and Kashmir in 2-3 days and a CEC meeting on Haryana in 4-5 days. We are in alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, our main objective is to defeat BJP. We want a free government in Jammu and Kashmir, we are ready for it and I think everyone will think in this direction.

When are the elections in Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana?

The Election Commission has announced the dates for the assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana on Friday. Elections will be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir while elections will be held in a single phase in Haryana. The results of the votes cast for both the states will come on October 4. With the announcement of elections, the model code of conduct has also come into force in both the states. However, assembly elections will not be held in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana along with other two states Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Their announcement will be made later. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the notification for the first phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which has 90 assembly seats, will be issued on August 20, the day after the completion of Amarnath Yatra on August 19.
