Shameless, political vultures… BJP lashes out at Mamata Banerjee and opposition over Kolkata rape-murder

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday called West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ‘shameless’ and demanded her resignation. The party also alleged that crucial evidence was destroyed at her behest to save the culprits of the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. The party also criticised the opposition ‘India’ alliance leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and called them ‘political vultures’. The party also alleged that they ‘normalised’ the rape and murder of a trainee doctor by comparing it with similar cases reported in different parts of the country, including BJP-ruled states.

BJP accuses Mamta Banerjee
BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said in a press conference at the BJP headquarters, “Mamata Banerjee… is ‘Mamata Vinashak’. By her actions, she destroyed the dignity of a woman and a doctor who was serving the society. Mamata Banerjee is a destroyer of the rule of law and the Constitution.”

‘Mamata Banerjee got important evidence destroyed’
he/she alleged that the chief minister did not take concrete steps to ensure a speedy investigation into the “possibility” of gang rape and murder of the doctor, but instead got the crucial evidence of the heinous crime destroyed. “And look at the shamelessness of the destroyer… shameless Mamata. She took out a march in Kolkata when the whole country was ashamed of the gruesome incident of rape and murder… she should resign (from the post of chief minister) immediately,” Bhatia said.

The body of the doctor was found in a hospital in Kolkata
The body of a female trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The rape and murder of the doctor on duty has sparked outrage across the country. The accused was arrested the next day in connection with the crime. The students of the medical college are continuing their protest demanding justice for the deceased doctor. The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the investigation of the case to be handed over from the Kolkata Police to the CBI. At present, the CBI is investigating the case.
