Geneva conference calls for UN fact-finding mission to investigate rights violations in Balochistan, Sindh




A conference organized by the Baloch Human Rights Council and the World Sindhi Congress brought together scholars, human rights activists, journalists and political leaders to express deep concern over the ongoing human rights violations by Pakistan in Balochistan and Sindh.

Participants condemned mass disappearances and extrajudicial killings targeting Baloch and Sindhi socio-political activists and called for a United Nations fact-finding mission to investigate these violations.

The conference also criticized cooperation between China and Pakistan in exploiting the natural resources of Balochistan and Sindh. Attendees raised concerns about the fencing of Gwadar and a proposed agreement that could enable China to effectively control the city of Gwadar and its international airport, potentially turning it into a colonial enclave.

It called for an immediate end to enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of socio-political activists and human rights defenders, and stressed that all perpetrators of human rights violations must be held accountable in the International Court of Justice.

The participants also called for an end to all resource exploitation by China and Pakistan in Balochistan and Sindh. Expressing disappointment at the silence of the international community and the United Nations regarding crimes against humanity and genocide occurring in these areas, the Conference recommended sending a United Nations fact-finding mission to assess the human rights and humanitarian crisis of the people of Balochistan. demanded. It reaffirmed that the Baloch and Sindhi struggle for self-determination is in line with the principles outlined in United Nations declarations regarding colonized nations, calling for the struggle to be recognized and accepted without delay.
