It is often seen that people share such videos from their accounts without verifying them, with which some misleading claim has been made. A similar video is going viral on Twitter, the claim with which has been found to be misleading in the investigation by the Vigilant team.

What is the claim regarding the video?

In this video going viral on social media, two sadhus are seen drinking alcohol. During interrogation, both of them reveal their names as Haroon and Shahrukh. Both of them also have a bottle of liquor. The person making the video appeals to the people to identify such sadhus and not give them money in alms.

This video has been shared with the X handle named ‘We The People’. Posting the video, it is written, ‘Haridwar: Two illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators caught drinking expensive liquor in the guise of sadhus, names are Harun and Shahrukh.’ The video was posted on December 22 and this post has also been reposted by 190 other accounts. What is the truth of the video?

To know the truth of the video, when we searched its screen shot with the help of Google Lens, we found a clip of Times Now presswire18 channel dated 29 August 2024, in which it is told that two Muslim youths in the guise of sadhus were drinking liquor in Haridwar. Upon further searching, we found another post dated August 28 from the same X handle that had posted this video on December 22. In this post too, a video has been shared with the same claim that two Bangladeshis, Harun and Shahrukh, were caught drinking expensive liquor in the guise of sadhus in Haridwar. After this, we searched the X-handle of Haridwar Police, but there too we did not find any such information which would show that this video is recent. In such a situation, it is clear that the old video has been shared again with a misleading claim. Even from the video it is not confirmed that the two youths caught are Bangladeshi.
