Emergency release: Censor board’s clear statement in HC – certificate will be given only if cuts are made, Kangana is also adamant

The release of Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ is likely to be delayed further. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) told the Bombay High Court on Thursday that it has no objection to the release of the film, but the makers will have to make some cuts in it. Interestingly, this reply of the censor board has come to the court when Kangana had clearly said in a recent interview that she would not make any cuts in any part of her film based on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The actress even said that she has resolved that she will release ‘Emergency’ the way she has made it. Last week, a bench of Justice BP Colabawala and Firdaus Pooniwala had reprimanded the censor board and sought a reply on the release of ‘Emergency’. The court had said that the board should make up its mind and tell what its stand is on issuing a certificate to the film. The bench asked the censor board whether the CBFC could not remain neutral and needed to take a decision, otherwise it would amount to curbing freedom of expression.
