Revathi was born in Kochi. Her father Malank Kelunni Nair was a Major in the Indian Army. Her mother’s name was Lalitha, who belonged to a Tamil family from Palakkad. She participated in a fashion show during her school days. During that time, one of her photos was selected for the cover of a famous Tamil magazine. When this photo was published and director Bharathiraja saw it, he/she cast her in the film ‘Mann Vasanai’ (1983). This movie was a hit and it also won the Filmfare Award-South. In the same year, the actress worked in the Malayalam film ‘Kattathe Kilikkudu’. This movie was also a hit at the box office. And it was one of the biggest hit films of that year. In 1984, she also entered the Telugu industry. She worked there too. She even worked with Rajinikanth.

Revathi got her biggest break from Mani Ratnam’s film ‘Moun Ragam’, which was released in 1986. Revathi did many back-to-back movies after this. She also surprised everyone by acting in Priyadarshan’s Malayalam film Kilukkam (1991). After working in the South industry for 7-8 years, she entered Bollywood in 1991 with Suresh Krishna’s movie Love. But she got the National Award in the Best Supporting Actress category for the Tamil film ‘Thevar Magan’ released in 1992. She also won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Award for Thalaimurai in 1998.

Revathi gave birth to a daughter through IVF after divorce

Revathi married cinematographer and director Suresh Chandan Menon in 1986. She did not have any children from him/her. In the middle, there were a lot of differences between the two, so they started living separately in 2002. Then on 23 April 2013, both got divorced. After this, in 2018, she revealed that she had given birth to a daughter through IVF. And she was 5 years old at that time. In an interview given to a monthly parenting magazine, she told that she opted for IVF because she had tried to adopt but she did not get a chance to adopt a newborn. That is why she decided on IVF. For this, she took the help of a sperm donor. When she gave birth to a daughter, she felt that she had received a gift from heaven.

Revathi is also a director and voice over artist

Revathi has directed many films from 2002 to 2022. This includes ‘Mitra, My Friend’, which received the National Award for Best Feature Film. It was an English movie. Apart from this, she directed ‘Phir Milenge’ in 2004, the 2009 Malayalam film ‘Kerala Cafe’, ‘Mumbai Cutting’ in 2010 and ‘Salaam Vanki’ in 2022. Apart from this, she has worked as a voice over artist for films of different South industries. A film was released in 2020, for which it was dubbed in Sanskrit language. She has also worked as a playback singer for a Tamil film Margazhi Thingal. She has also worked in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi TV shows.
