Diabetic Patients Should Keep These Things in Mind While Exercising, Otherwise It Can Be Risky

Even though diabetes is a disease, it cannot be taken lightly. If sugar is not controlled in time, the risk of many other diseases also increases. Good diet and exercise are very important to stay healthy. But many diabetic patients have a question in their mind whether they can do heavy exercise. According to the National Institute of Health Yes, diabetic patients can exercise and it also helps them in staying fit.

But diabetic patients may face problems during exercise, because due to lack of insulin, instead of converting the food in the body into energy, it gets absorbed in the blood in the form of glucose. So due to this, diabetic patients are not able to produce enough energy, hence they face many problems. Therefore, they should exercise keeping some things in mind.

Check sugar level

For the first few days, check your sugar level before and after exercise. So that you can know how your body is responding to the sugar level. If your sugar level is too low or too high then avoid exercising.

Diabetic patients should especially start any exercise slowly. Do not do high intensity exercise suddenly. If you are doing 30 minutes of exercise, then next week increase the time by 5 minutes and then do 35 minutes.

To avoid hypoglycemia during exercise, eat a pre-workout snack, such as fruit, nuts, bread or peanut butter, 30 to 60 minutes before exercise to maintain your sugar levels.

If you are a patient of diabetes along with heart disease or high blood pressure, then definitely consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. They will advise you on what exercises to do based on your current condition.

Keep drinking water little by little during exercise. It is important to drink adequate amount of water to avoid dehydration.
