Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, India will also come here to play, PCB Chairman Naqvi

Lahore. ICC Champions Trophy is to be organized in Pakistan next year. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Monday expressed confidence that the ICC Champions Trophy will be organized in the country. All teams including arch-rival India will participate in the tournament. It is noteworthy that BCCI has already made it clear that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan and play any match.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to start on February 19 while its final is to be played on March 9. Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi have been chosen as the venues. India has not sent its team to Pakistan since July 2008 due to strained political relations between the two countries. Naqvi said, “The Indian team should come. I don’t think they will cancel or postpone coming here. We are confident that we will host all the teams in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

Discussion on hybrid model

Earlier, BCCI had clearly refused the Indian team to go to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup. The then head of Pakistan Cricket Board, Zaka Ashraf tried hard but BCCI did not change its decision. Ultimately the PCB had to shift India’s Asia Cup matches to Sri Lanka. Pakistan team got a chance to host only 4 matches. The final match was also played in Sri Lanka. In Super 4, a match between Pakistan and Bangladesh was played in Lahore. All the remaining Super 4 matches were shifted to Sri Lanka.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi also said that Pakistan is ready to host all the teams including India and preparations are going on as per schedule. Naqvi said, “The stadiums will also be ready to host matches on time.”
