Ashwin retired without playing the last match, could not break Kumble’s great record

New Delhi. This was being seen as the last series of many senior players before the start of the Australia tour. Veteran spinner R Ashwin started his/her retirement from international cricket only after the third match of the 5-match series. This veteran did not get a chance to play in the historic match of Gabba but after the match was drawn, he/she came along with captain Rohit Sharma and announced his/her retirement. The disappointing thing for the Indian fans was that they could not see their champion player being given a guard of honour.

Another Indian legend has announced his/her retirement from a popular series like Border Gavaskar Trophy. Earlier, former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had announced his/her retirement from Test cricket during a similar series decades ago. In the Brisbane Test, the Indian team made a strong comeback after falling behind and created conditions to win the match. However the match ended in a draw. On the last day of the match, Indian legend Ashwin along with captain Rohit Sharma came in front of the media and shared the information about his/her retirement from international cricket.

Ashwin retires without playing the last match
Indian legend R Ashwin announced his/her retirement without playing the farewell match against Australia. The second match of the 5-match Test series was played in Adelaide, in which R Ashwin was a part of the playing eleven. This pink ball test proved to be the last match of his/her international career. Ashwin scored 22 runs in the first innings of this match and 7 runs in the second while taking 1 wicket in the first innings.

Could not break Kumble’s record
R Ashwin holds the record for taking the fastest wickets from 50 to 500 in Test cricket. he/she set a new record for India by taking the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 Test wickets. Ashwin has 537 wickets in his/her name in Tests and he/she will be second in the list of bowlers taking the most wickets for India. Veteran Anil Kumble remains at the top with 619 wickets.
