Deepti Naval remembered Raj Kapoor and said – I was the only woman at his/her funeral.

Now actress Deepti Naval has shared the memorable story of her first and last meeting with him/her, which is imprinted on her mind. In the early 70s, Deepti Naval was a student at Hunter College at New York University, Midtown Manhattan. Then he/she hosted a music program named ‘Rang Mahal’ on radio. Old Hindi songs were played in it, which Deepti liked very much. These songs were for the NRIs living there. The actress said that at that time the Indian community in New York was very small. Today every second person there is an Indian.

This is how I met Raj Kapoor for the first time

Deepti recalls an hour-long conversation with ‘music legend’ Raj Kapoor. She came to interview him/her with college friends and a heavy tape recorder. She says, ‘Raj Kapoor was very sweet. It was easy to talk to him/her. he/she was open to talking about his/her life and work, what inspires him/her and what matters to him/her.

Met several times in Mumbai

After this, Deepti met Raj Kapoor several times in Mumbai. he/she was even the chief guest at Deepti’s birthday party. She says, ‘I was very proud and very happy that they came to my apartment, which I had bought then. he/she wished me good luck. My father was also present there on this occasion.

The limit was broken during the funeral

Deepti also remembered her last meeting with Raj Kapoor. As soon as she came to know that Raj Kapoor is no more, she ran away from there. he/she said, ‘Wherever a cab was available, I took a cab, wherever an auto was available, I took an auto and the bus entered (the crematorium). his/her mortal remains were being cremated and the pyre was already burning. I was standing there. Silent. Astonished. Suddenly I realized that I was the only woman present there. I realized that women were not allowed beyond a certain limit by the family at the funeral. But unknowingly, I had broken this limit to say my last goodbye to Raj ji.
