A thief entered the sixth floor of a film director’s house at 3.10 in the night, everything was captured on CCTV camera

A thief broke into the sixth-floor home of Marathi film and TV director Swapna Waghmare Joshi (58) through a drainage pipe. At midnight, when everyone was sleeping, the thief, dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, climbed to the sixth floor of her building and entered the house through a French window.

Every movement of the thief was captured in the CCTV camera. According to the police report, Joshi’s 3BHK flat is on the sixth floor of Windsor B building near Sab TV Lane, Shabri Hotel in Andheri West. On August 25, at around 3.17 pm, a thief entered Swapna’s house through a French sliding window and started looking for money or valuables in the hall. he/she then went towards Joshi’s mother’s room and opened the door.

The thief opened the door a little and peeked into the bedroom where Joshi’s mother was sleeping on the bed and the caretaker was sleeping on the floor. Later, he/she looked into another bedroom but couldn’t get in as there was a dog there. So, he/she moved towards the kitchen and then started looking in the temple room.

The incident occurred between 3.10 and 3.30 a.m.

After that, he/she went to Joshi’s daughter Soumita’s room, where she and her husband were sleeping. The thief entered the room and stole Rs 6,000 from Soumita’s purse. The incident took place between 3.10 and 3.30 am.

Their pet cat woke up Joshi’s son-in-law Devan at 3.30 am. Devan had gone to the kitchen to get water and got suspicious, so he/she came back to the hall and saw the thief. he/she chased him/her, but the thief managed to escape through the window in a few seconds. The thief was unarmed. The entire incident was captured on CCTV installed in Joshi’s house.

Complaint lodged with Amboli police

Following the incident, Joshi lodged a complaint with the Amboli police. Joshi filed a complaint against an unidentified person, following which the Amboli police registered an FIR on August 26 under sections 305 (theft in house), 331(3) and 331(4) (house trespass or house breaking) of the Indian Penal Code.
