This visa is being given by the British government so that farmers can plan for the future. The government has announced that in 2025, 45,000 visas will be given to foreign workers under the Seasonal Worker Visa. In May 2024, the British government had announced to extend this visa system for five years. In this way, seasonal work visas will continue to be issued till 2029. The government believes that in the meantime, people involved in farming will shift to machines instead of workers.

Britain is facing shortage of workers

In fact, like many countries in Europe, Britain is also facing the problem of labor shortage in the food supply chain these days. In such a situation, it is in need of foreign workers. However, the government is also working to increase focus on machines instead of workers. The government is funding up to ÂŁ50 million for a fully automated packing house. Apart from this, support is also being provided to develop robotic crop pickers so that they can work like human workers in three to five years.

When and how to apply for visa?

To get a seasonal work visa, you have to apply on the British Government website. Seasonal worker visa for poultry has to be applied for by 15th November every year. Can be applied for gardening at any time of the year. It is necessary to have a sponsor before applying. Besides, other eligibility criteria also have to be fulfilled. This visa has replaced the old ‘Temporary Worker-Seasonal Worker Visa’ (T5).

Horticulture and poultry work can be done in the UK by applying for a Seasonal Worker Visa. For doing horticulture work, visa is available for a maximum of 6 months. Foreign workers work to pluck fruits, vegetables or flowers. In poultry work one has to look after chickens etc.
